Please read Psalms 107 and 103.

Our Father, how often we pray:

“Our Father in heaven . . . Give us this day our daily bread . . . “

And then You answer us!

You satisfy our longing souls and fill our hungry souls with goodness.

Yet how often do we act like the nine lepers and neglect to give You glory for the bread You have graciously provided!

Yet how often do we act like the nine lepers and neglect to give You glory for the Bread You have graciously provided!

Oh that we would praise You for Your goodness, and for Your wonderful works to the children of men, and for Your wonderful works to us! You alone satisfy the longing soul, and fill the hungry soul with goodness.

Yet how often do we act like the Israelites and complain about the bread You have freely provided!

How can we eat of Your bread and not help but break our alabaster jars and pour the oil out for You?

How can we eat of Your bread and not so much as raise our eyes to heaven and beat our breasts and say, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!”

Our Father, we confess how often we do not give you the thanks and praise due Your Name. How often do we think we are entitled to what we have, yet we deserve nothing. In fact, we deserve starvation and eternal damnation. By grace we have been saved through faith and that faith is not our own. It is a free gift we receive from Your hand. You have freely chosen to feed us with the Bread of life, Your Son the Lord Jesus Christ. You have freely chosen to feed us daily with physical bread. These gifts we receive from You are just that–they are gifts. They all come out of Your unmerited favor and undeserved mercies to us. We are not worthy of them. We have and can do nothing to earn them. Yet You feed us until we want no more. You are good. You are loving. You are kind. Your steadfast love and merciful kindness endures forever to Your children! We are Your children only because You have chosen to love us. There is nothing at all lovely about us, nothing in us to merit Your love. All we have comes out of Your gracious mercies to us through the cross of Christ. Grow in us hearts of praise and thankfulness to You, O Lover of our souls. May we always have a song of thankfulness in our hearts and on our our lips. May we not forget all Your benefits! May our souls continue to praise You for it is from You alone from whom all blessings flow. May our souls continue to praise You for every good and perfect gift comes from You, from above, from the father of lights.

Oh that we would praise You for Your goodness, and for Your wonderful works to the children of men, and for Your wonderful works to us! You alone satisfy the longing soul, and fill the hungry soul with goodness.

Reflect on His goodness and steadfast love to You.

Confess how You have not glorified Him as You ought.
Confess how You have not praised Him as You ought.
Confess how You have not thanked Him as You ought.

Then may we together

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!
Let us, the redeemed of the Lord, say so now to Him in prayer!
Come now and bless Him and bless His holy name and forget not all His benefits!
